Fitness minded parents of infants and toddlers who want to stay in shape, or mom’s who want to get back into shape after having a baby, might want to invest in jogging strollers to bring their babies along with them. Single jogging strollers, designed for transporting one child, have been around for a few decades now and have only improved with the years.

Typical jogging strollers have three large wheels typically with rubber tires. These help to stabilize the stroller as you run or jog along the pavement. There are two wheels in the back and usually one in the front. The shape of the jogging stroller is more like the tip of an arrow, or a triangle pointing away from the jogger. The child’s seating area or nearer the handle is wider than where the baby’s feet are. This helps to cut through the air when running or jogging. This design also gives the baby plenty of room to lie down.

Jogging strollers are made of durable tubing and a woven, breathable, washable material stretched over the tubing. There are jogging strollers with a fixed front wheel and some have a swivel front wheel. The, often single, fixed front wheel strollers help to maintain a straight line while you run or jog. The wide spacing of the back tires help you handle the bumps in the road as you jog along. Many of the newer single jogging strollers offer a swivel front wheel and provide a latch that allows you to put the tire in a ‘fixed’ position for exercising. This way you can use the jogging stroller for other outings besides just exercising and jogging.

Jogging strollers come in various shapes and sizes. There is the typical, triangular style which is best for long distance runners and those training for marathons; then there are the jogging strollers that look more like a typical stroller except they are more rugged and can handle more of a punishing trail or off-road type workout.

Though single jogging strollers offer a relatively lightweight solution for running with one infant or toddler, there are jogging strollers built for two, either twins or two small children, or even three children. Both the double and triple jogging strollers are built to last and have a double front wheel which helps with maneuverability. Each seating section can be moved independently of the other so if one child is tired, he or she can lie down while the other two sit up and enjoy the ride.

All of the jogging strollers come with a visor or shade to help keep the children from getting over exposed by the sun, and safety straps to keep them in place while you are jogging and in case of a spill, the babies will be locked into the jogging stroller, which is clearly safer than being thrown from the stroller.

Jogging strollers can be used for everyday stroller use and not just for jogging, running or exercising. They can be taken out on a trail or to the mall or the park. They are versatile and really help you enjoy the time you spend with your baby.
